Frisson is a Historical Dark Victorian Forum set in 1876. The board is unique in that we are not limited to the city the admin has decided on, instead you may play your Victorian era character anywhere in the world across multiple continents! We are a realistic board with an emphasis on the written word and the ability to tell a dramatic and engaging tale woven with intricacy to entrap the reader. Our concept is based on popular literature and musicals like Phantom of the Opera, Sweeney Todd, Jekyll & Hyde, Jack the Ripper and My Cousin Rachel.
Frisson was originally created as a compliment to the field of historical sites catering to those who wish to step back in time and create a world around historical ancestry. We welcome dark intrigue here. As we are a 3/3/3 rating, we encourage well thought out plots that contain violence, mystery, calamity, the macabre, and the suspenseful. Those of us who write here enjoy living in the shadows and writing in blood.
We are always accepting new plots and different ideas for new cities. If you have an idea for a new city you may submit a city request at any time to add a new subforum to the group.
Currently we have three major outlying plots that we would love to entertain you with. The first is set in London, the second in a small town in Kansas, and the third integrates the chaos and horror of the plains Indian wars. More detail about each is listed below.
Current Character plot summaries are listed here.
There are two plots currently at play in London. The first involves the opening of a new Hospital (or Dispensary) in the St. Giles area in the Slums of London. This state of the art facility caters to the lowest of the poor in one of the richest cities in the world.
Funded by the benevolent aristocracy and members of the social elite, the hospital is a meeting ground between the people it serves and those who want to do good things, but with only so much motivation as to write a check. As the hospital bridges the divide of the classes, there is plenty of room to build your own story around it. Whether you're a working class patient or a wealthy benefactor.. a nurse, doctor or anarchist, the Dispensary blurs the line between the haves and have nots.
The second overarching plot involves the glamour and pomp of the wealthy Noble aristocracy in the Ton. Those who consider it their calling, and those fighting to find a place among the well to do social elite. But beneath the fanfare, humanity's ugliest traits tarnish the silver facade of the most admired titles. Vanity, greed, lust, gluttony and pride are at war and everyone can be used as a pawn to advance the selfish motivations of the most ruthless among them. Violence, murder and trafficking are some of the calling cards of the wealthiest in the peerage. Will you be a victim or a victor?
The first and most established plot in the American saga takes place during the Great Western Expansion where the U.S. Army is facing off against and annihilating the great nations of the Plains Indians. In this plot the grit and struggle of the last remaining tribes are accounted and detailed through he lives and stories written. Writers in this plot are encouraged to embrace the cultural significance of Native Americans through research and to detail the struggle and mayhem of their fight to survive outside of the reservations. Major battles will be fought both on the grasslands of the great prairies, and in the gilded halls of Washington DC where politics and Manifest Destiny cast a deep shadow over the suffering of those who stand in the way of progress.
The second major plot is an extension of of the Plains Indian wars. All across the west small towns are shooting up along major cattle routes, and along the great rail lines that now scar the virgin earth of America. Augusta, Kansas is a budding town east of Wichita. Founded by C.N. James, where the slow running Elm Creek feeds into the larger Augusta Lake, the town was an ideal place for hunting and fishing. It's also the future stop for the Walnut Valley Railroad Company along the Florence to El Dorado branch.
In this small town, politics and pride war for dominance while lawless outlaws cast their shadow over any sort of peaceful existence. Will the residents of the town ban together to keep their town free of their theft and violence? Or embrace the darkness and ultimately harbor these fugitives?
Do you have a little Darkness in you? Then come join the intrigue, the romance, and the suspense on the Frisson Dark Victorian Writing Forum.
